How much smaller will it get?
It depends on what is inside. PDFs made from scans or full of photographs usually shrink a great deal, because the pictures are stored at far higher quality than a screen or a printer needs. A PDF that is mostly typed text is already small, and may barely change.
The page shows you the size before and after, rather than promising a figure. If the result would not be smaller, it tells you so and you keep your original.
What changes and what does not
Only the pictures inside the PDF are made smaller. Typed text stays as text, so it remains sharp and searchable. Light keeps pictures close to their original quality. Recommended is the best balance for email and upload forms. Strong makes the smallest file, but photographs may look a little softer.
Documents you would rather not upload

Will the text become blurry?
No. Text that was typed stays as text and is not touched. Only pictures, including scanned pages, are made smaller.
Can I compress a password-protected PDF?
Remove the password first with Remove PDF password, compress it, then add a password again with Protect PDF if you need one.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The work happens inside your web browser, on your own device. Before your file is opened, this page locks itself: from then on your browser refuses to let it fetch, upload or send anything at all.
