MP3 to M4A

Which browsers can do this?
Making M4A files relies on the AAC encoder built into your browser. Current versions of Chrome and Edge on Windows and Mac have one, and so does Safari. Firefox does not, and the page tells you straight away if your browser cannot make M4A files, rather than giving you a file in the wrong format.
A note on quality
MP3 and AAC are both compressed formats, and each compression throws a little detail away, so converting one to the other loses a little more. At the default setting this is rarely audible. If you have the original recording as WAV or FLAC, that is the better starting point.

Can I make an iPhone ringtone?
An M4A made here can be renamed from .m4a to .m4r and added as a ringtone through a computer. Ringtones must be 40 seconds or shorter.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The work happens inside your web browser, on your own device. Before your file is opened, this page locks itself: from then on your browser refuses to let it fetch, upload or send anything at all.
