GIF to PNG
Turn GIF pictures into PNGs, keeping any see-through areas. The PNG is a still picture, not a moving one, so for a moving GIF you choose which single frame to keep. Everything happens on your own device.
How to use it
- For moving GIFs, choose which frame to keep.
- Choose your GIF files, or drag them onto the box.
- Download each PNG, or all of them together as a ZIP file.
Moving GIFs
The PNG made here is a still picture, so only one frame of a moving GIF is kept. The first frame is used unless you choose another; each result shows which frame it is and how many the GIF has. Choosing a frame other than the first downloads a picture engine of about 5 MB the first time, so that the frame is built exactly as it appears in the animation.
Why PNG?
PNG keeps every pixel exactly and keeps see-through areas, and it can hold millions of colours where a GIF holds at most 256. It is the usual format for logos, icons and screenshots, and every program accepts it.

Are my files uploaded?
No. The work happens inside your web browser, on your own device. Before your file is opened, this page locks itself: from then on your browser refuses to let it fetch, upload or send anything at all.
