TIFF to JPG
Turn TIFF and TIF files, such as scans, faxes and pictures from printers and cameras, into ordinary JPGs that open anywhere. A TIFF with several pages becomes one JPG for each page. Everything happens on your own device.
How to use it
- Choose every page or the first page only, and the quality.
- Choose your TIFF files, or drag them onto the box.
- Download each JPG, or all of them together as a ZIP file.
TIFF files with several pages
A TIFF can hold several pages, like a scanned document. With Every page, each page becomes its own JPG, named with its page number, so a ten-page scan gives you ten JPGs. With First page only, you get one JPG from each file. If you would rather have the pages together in one document, use TIFF to PDF.
How it works
Most browsers cannot open TIFF files, so this page uses ImageMagick, the well-known picture program, running inside your browser. It is about 5 MB and is downloaded the first time you convert a TIFF; your browser normally keeps it for next time. Your files are never uploaded.
Colours meant for printing (CMYK), 16-bit pictures, black-and-white fax pages and pictures stored on their side are all converted to ordinary screen colours, the right way up. JPG has no see-through areas, so transparent parts become white.
Files that may not convert, or may differ
A small number of TIFF files use rare kinds of compression, called LZMA and WebP, that cannot be opened here; the page tells you if yours is one of them. Specialist scientific TIFFs, such as those storing signed 16-bit values or Lab colour, may come out with different brightness or colour from the program that made them.
Questions
Is TIF the same as TIFF?
Yes. TIF and TIFF are two spellings of the same format, and both open here.
Will I lose quality?
Very little at the default quality of 90. JPG files are usually much smaller than TIFF files.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The work happens inside your web browser, on your own device. Before your file is opened, this page locks itself: from then on your browser refuses to let it fetch, upload or send anything at all. You can check: once the page has loaded, switch off your internet connection and it will still work. How the lock works.
