How to use it

1. Choose your picture, drag it onto the box, or paste one.
2. Drag over anything you want to hide, or press Find faces. Tap a box to remove it.
3. Choose the effect and strength, then press Save picture and download the copy.

Blur, pixelate or black box?

Blur and pixelate look softer and suit faces and backgrounds. A black box is the safest choice for text such as names, addresses and account numbers, because nothing of the original is left underneath it. Blur and pixelate are made strong on purpose; a light blur over small text can sometimes still be read, so use a black box for anything that really matters.

Finding faces

Press Find faces and the page finds the faces in the picture and hides them. The face finder is a small AI model that runs on your device; it only finds where faces are, and does not recognise who anybody is. It can miss faces that are very small, turned away or partly hidden, so always check the picture and drag over any it missed.

What is saved

The saved picture is a new copy with the hidden areas drawn into it, so they cannot be undone by someone who receives it. Hidden details stored in photos, such as where and when a photo was taken and the camera used, are not carried over. Your original picture is left unchanged.

Private, because it runs on your device

The face finder, about 6 MB, is downloaded to your device when the page opens and is normally reused by your browser next time. The page then locks itself, so that it cannot send anything anywhere before you choose a picture.
